Heardmont Park

Heardmont Park covers seventy-four acres which includes the Oak Mountain High School Football Stadium with rubberized track, 9 baseball/softball fields, 3 soccer fields, playground facilities, walking trails, 4 lighted tennis courts, and a senior center located within the park.

Shelby County and the Shelby County Board of Education purchased the property that is now Heardmont Park from the City of Hoover. The park was funded by a Foundation consisting of the County, the Shelby County Board of Education, area athletic boosters and concerned citizens. Shelby County coordinated construction of all permanent park amenities and structures; athletic fields coordinated and built by local athletic organizations, Oak Mountain Youth Baseball and American Soccer Club.

Out of the Darkness Walk
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes, claiming more than 38,000 lives each year. This fall, hundreds of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “Out of the Darkness” Community Walks will take place throughout the nation, including one in Birmingham, Alabama. People walk to raise awareness of depression and suicide, to honor loved ones, and to raise funds for research, education, and survivors of suicide support programs. This year, the 9th Annual “Out of the Darkness” Community Walk in Birmingham will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Heardmont Park. Registration will open at 1:00 p.m., and the walk will begin at 2:30 p.m. There is no registration fee. There will be a survivor area, with counselors, for walkers to post pictures of their loved ones. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
