North Shelby Library

The North Shelby Library District was created in 1988 by an act of the state legislature and a majority vote of the residents of the district to provide library services to an area of Shelby County. The library operates as a 501-C-3 organization under the laws of the state and the direction of a five-member board.

The Library has a yearly circulation of approximately 150,000 items, which include books, videos, DVDs, audio books, and music CDs. Internet access is also available through the library. Almost 200 programs are offered through the library through the year.

Alabama Quilt History: Alabama Cotton & Bemis Bags, Pieced into Quilt History
In this presentation, we trace the evolution of cotton bags from a rural-household convenience, to a Depression Era necessity, to a wartime way of life, to an urban re-purposing fad. This program is presented by Sarah Bliss Wright and sponsored in part by the Alabama Humanities Foundation.
