LA SONNAMBULA (The Sleepwalker)
By Vincenzo Bellini
Known for his beautiful melodies, Bellini’s setting, La Sonnambula is a different take on the usual love stories of the Bel Canto era. A village is celebrating the upcoming wedding of their own Amina. But the presence of a supposed phantom that walks the streets at night creates unforeseen and mysterious events that cast doubts on Amina’s reputation. While it appears the wedding is off, once the mystery of the Phantom is solved, Amina’s reputation is completely restored and the wedding plans are completed.
